The UK Health & Safety Executive (HSE) statistics show that around a quarter of all transport related accidents at work involve forklift trucks. They advise that accidents involving forklift trucks are often due to poor training and supervision and have published an Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) to improve forklift truck safety at work. Many accidents in the workplace involving forklift trucks also involve fellow workers on foot.
The HSE state that “by law, pedestrians or vehicles must be able to use a traffic route without causing danger to the health or safety of people working near it”. A section of their website deals with separating pedestrians and vehicles.
